Tonight is yet another evening where the simple sounds of my step-daughter practicing piano is relaxing me.
Sometimes she slows down to properly read the music.
Sometimes she makes a mistake.
Sometimes she plays right through.
But in our sleeping living room, the sounds of each note expand out and rebound off every wall.
It reminds me of when I was her age and our family had those little toy hand-pianos.
I spent ages just playing a ‘D’ then ‘C’ to complete it.
Over and over again. Letting the ‘D’ hang in the air for a few seconds… then hitting the ‘C’.
However, like all good things, it eventually comes to end. My step-daughter will start playing with the pre-programmed stuff on the keyboard.
For her, it is more fun. Fair enough. It’s a good release after focusing for a time.
But I wish she would just keep practicing for a couple of hours.
I’m sure if she did, the relaxation it brings would go deeper & deeper into me.
Oh well, now it’s my turn to practice!
