Last night I was driving home with my wife, step-daughter and her two cousins.
Over the course of an hour they conversed about technology, what it was & is like for different generations, then somehow it led to talking about the differences between books & films.
My step-daughter is 10, her 2 cousins are 12 & 15, and my wife is… still very young!
Despite the age difference, which would more likely be a factor if the conversation had happened in a lesson at school, they all contributed their ideas, which were often conflicting.
The best teacher in the world probably couldn’t have hoped for a more productive conversation.
Well done to my wife for steering the ship.
They were practicing their:
- listening skills
- critical thinking
- presenting their opinions
- debating skills
- how to have a pleasant conversation
…all without shouting or talking over one another or needing to be told what to do.
It just happened as a natural conversation. And it was beautiful!
