The time for full moon meditation is upon us!
Tonight is the first full moon of the calendar year and the last of the lunar calendar. It’s a special moment called the Full Wolf Moon.
That is because in the Northern hemisphere January is winter time so, traditionally, the howls of wolves are heard louder.
Reflective Qualities of The Moon
The Moon can only be seen in the reflection of the Sun.
It has a passive, inward-looking energy.
It is a mirror, essentially, and in this way it can act as a mirror into our own mindful introspection.
This is particularly true on the night of a Full Moon.
Heightened Effects of a Full Moon
When the Moon is Full, the light of the Sun that it reflects is fully illuminated in the night sky.
Full Moon energy has a way of stirring up emotions and heightening our sensitivity or facility to shine light on certain aspects we might be obscuring.
This is true on a personal level and also a collective level.
By shining a light into the darkness of night, the Full Moon energy has a way of revealing what is no longer serving you.
It helps you with what needs to be healed, integrated or released so you can continue to progress on your path of living a mindful life.
For this reason, it’s a wonderful time for meditation – to cleanse and recharge your energy.
How Can We Practice Full Moon Meditation?
Full Moon meditation is allowing the reflective qualities of the night to impress upon our unconscious minds that which we want to create.
It’s a subtle intent you set while meditating in stillness.
It’s like you are letting it come out, by itself.
It requires you to surrender somewhat to imagery.
What you want to create is shining on you like the Sun shining on the Moon. The moon accepts the Sunlight.
In the same way, with each conscious breath you take while meditating, you accept the shining brilliance of your creative light.
What To Focus on With Full Moon Meditation?
Let what you see impress itself upon your unconscious mind.
Ask yourself: What area of your life would you like to transform, heal or amplify with this Full Moon meditation?
It’s best not to scatter your attention.
Have a clear mind with one area of your life:
- Do you want a better relationship?
- Do you want an improved financial situation?
- Do you want a healthier body?
- Do you want to be calmer and more focused?
- Do you want to improve your sleep?
- Do you just want to embody mindfulness more deeply?
Again, Full Moon meditation is a more passive approach to letting what you want to create emerge into your awareness.
Whatever intent you are setting, it becomes clearer as you meditate.
With each conscious breath, that frantic mind that exists “on edge” – desperately waiting for a “monumental, earth-shattering transformation” – loses power and prominence.
With each conscious breath, it becomes more and more effortless to see what you want to create as it gets reflected in your unconscious mind — a calm, focused, and accepting mind.
Let the space between your thoughts linger…
Lost Your Chance At A Full Moon Meditation?
The heightened energy of a Full Moon lingers for a day before and a day after the absolute Full Moon.
You can still harness it in these times.
If you have the opportunity to meditate outside, directly under the Full Moon, soak it up!
If you’re living in the city or it’s not possible for another reason, better to find a quiet place inside where you can connect with stillness.
The heightened energy of the Full Moon will still reach you.
Have patience and it will reach you…
Let this be a light-hearted meditation practice 🙂
